For a competitive multiplayer game like Fortnite, performance is king. Though the game is well optimised, there are a few settings widely recommended to turn off to give you easy performance benefits.
There are also settings - from changing controller sensitivity to key bindings - which we don't touch upon in this article. Both are subjective to each player, and it's worth messing around with what you find usable. Instead, we'll be focusing on performance gains. If you're just getting started with the game, our Fortnite Battle Royale tips and tricks can provide some helpful hints.
On PC, go to the lobby - which is the screen where you can decide the type of match you want to play, or jump into Challenges and so forth - then click the sandwich icon in the upper right corner of the screen to bring up extra settings. On PS4 or Xbox One, this is much the same. Optimising Fortnite for improved performance isn't an exact science as every player's hardware set up is different - Textures and Effects for example could be increased if you have beefier computer - though the likes of disabled Shadows and Motion Blur are widely suggested things to disabled regardless of your setup.
If you're unsure, it's recommended turning everything up to the max or lowest settings and turning Show FPS on, then adjusting individual settings based on what you'd like - such as texture quality - to get the best possible balance of visuals and performance. Window Mode: This can allow you to interact with other windows easier, so you can minimise the game to check something else. Might not be as useful on a dual-screen set-up, and as the game explains, "in full screen we can save memory and render slightly faster".
Display resolution: Generally, the lower your resolution, the better your performance will be. If your device supports it, a minimum of p is recommended. If it's something in-between these two, then the varying performance can be off-putting, so many prefer to keep things at 60 FPS.
Quality: This is a quick way to set all the below settings at once. We'd recommend ignoring this and tinkering with graphics settings individually. View Distance: The higher this is, the more you can see. Turning this down can give you a performance advantage, but only on slower devices, and in a game where seeing as much as possible is ideal, we'd recommend setting this as high as possible.
Shadows: This is a visual-only benefit that can also "allow better depth perception", according to the game. Unless you have a fast graphics card, turning this down is highly recommended for the performance benefits it brings. Anti-Aliasing: The higher this is, the smoother visuals will be, reducing 'jaggied' edges. This can see a hit on performance, so reducing or turning off can see the game run smoother.
Controls are separated between Build Mode and Control Mode! With a lower Touch Scope Sensitivityit makes aiming through scopes without sacrificing the overall aim speed. The higher Touch Sensitivity also makes using the controls a bit more effortless. Having lower sensitivity will generally make it easier to aim, but will make building structures more difficult. On the other hand, higher sensitivity makes building easier, but aiming harder. Check which one works for you best!
On the drop down menu, click the " Gear " to open up the Settings Menu! Check out this Tip for iOS and Android users! Add additional buttons to your screen as hotkeys to buildings. This will act as a shortcut to building structures without having to toggle build mode and choosing the specific structure! Notice even when in combat mode, you have access to structures.
The fire, crouch, and jump button are also near each other for easy access! The Quick Heal button will allow you to use a healing item with a single press of a button.
Make sure to add it to your HUD before starting as it's not added to to your layout automatically. This will also act as a notification for you that you're missing health or shields. Auto-Shoot will automatically fire your weapon as soon as your crosshair lands on an enemy.

This is the recommended shooting option because it makes shooting and combat easier! Tap anywhere on the screen to use your weapon. Use double-tap and hold to fire continuously for weapons that allow for continuous fire.
With the dedicated button, your weapon will continue to fire as long as you are pressing it. You can drag your finger while holding this button to track enemies while still shooting. There's an option to use more than one shooting option in Mobile.

We recommend having the Auto-Shoot and Dedicated Button together! This will allow you to control your shots and have the auto-shoot in tricky situations.
The first time you open Fortnite Mobile, you will be prompted to select Shooting Options.
While some players run different settings to others, running the game at peak efficiency is vital for performing well in the Battle Royale. Getting the best frames per second has a real impact on how you play.Symbols for codm name
With 99 other players in each game, you need every advantage that you can get. The vast majority of Fortnite pro settings options are in the PC version of the game. While controllers have seen some adoption recentlyPC is still the main platform to play Fortnite competitively. Like many other games though, the standard settings for Fortnite tries to make the game look as good as possible, usually at the expense of performance. These are the settings you should be using if you want Fortnite to run as well as it possibly can:.
Those are a great set of video settings for Fortnite. These settings will make your game a bit ugly. However, it does help you get the best frame rate irrelevant of how powerful your PC is. Fortnite Pro Settings can be a good example of how players run the game the way that they do.
The best Fortnite settings on PC are used by a lot of pros. Tfue is one of the best players out there, and unlike Ninja his streams are characterised by high-level play rather than entertainment. His pro settings show off how he plays the game. One thing to keep in mind with pro players though is that these settings work to both make the game run well and look good when streaming.
Tfue and Ninja use really high-level PCs to run the game, so you may have to dial things down a bit to get the same results. Not every Fortnite player sticks to the PC. Even console players might want to optimise. Using the best Xbox Fortnite settings can give you a jump in quality that will surprise you.Chdk eos m3
As tests have proven, Fortnite on Xbox can look pretty good when optimised. After that video was made, an update was pushed to the console version of Xbox that removed that 30 FPs cap, so you can now go considerably higher than is shown in that video.
These are the best Xbox Fortnite settings for you to use:. Sensitivities are a whole different thing. These are going to be really dependent on your personal preference. The key thing is to build up muscle memory with a particular sensitivity.
Your choice of controller is also important. Those with paddles make it a lot easier to react quickly, although a mouse and keyboard plugged in are still ideal. These settings should help you get the Xbox Fortnite settings close to those used on PC. The 60 FPS button is the most important one. This makes your Xbox prioritise gameplay over the look of the game. The other settings should help you streamline the process and remove some of the hand-holding controls that Epic push on console players.Fortnite has become a global phenomenon, and with Season 7 just kicking off there's no end in sight to the updates and tweaks.
At this point, I'm not even sure why the Battle Royale mode is still labeled as Early Access—probably to stem complaints about bugs or something. Anyway, millions of people have played Fortnite BR and continue to do so, but while the somewhat cartoony graphics might lead you to think the game can run on potato hardware, that's not entirely true.
At the lowest settings, Fortnite can run on just about any PC built in the past five years. It's also available on mobile devices, which are generally far slower than even aging PCs. But what does that mean?
We've benchmarked the latest version, using the replay feature so that we can test the exact same sequence on each configuration. Full details of the settings and how much they affect or don't affect performance are below, but let's start with the features overview. Starting with our features checklist, Fortnite had a bit of a rough start, but things have improved since launch.
Previously, everyone was locked into the same FOV, with vertical cropping for widescreen and ultrawide resolutions.J1939 stm32
There's still a bit of odd behavior in that Fortnite only lists resolutions for your display's native aspect ratio if you're in fullscreen mode meaning, on a standard 4K display you'll only see resolutionsthough you can get around this using Windowed Fullscreen mode in a pinch. That's better than when FOV was completely locked, though.
As our partner for these detailed performance analyses, MSI provided the hardware we needed to test Fortnite on a bunch of different AMD and Nvidia GPUs and laptops—see below for the full details, along with our Performance Analysis article. Thanks, MSI! The number of settings to tweak is a bit limited, with only six primary settings plus motion blur, 3D resolution scalingand a framerate limit.
Only three of these have more than a small impact, however. None of these are showstoppers, though fans of modding will be disappointed yet again with the lack of support.
Perhaps more critically though Epic hasn't said this directlymods would likely cut into the profitability of the item store. Why buy an outfit from the store if you could just create your own?
Either way, modding isn't supported, and that's unlikely to change. You can build things in the Creative mode that might eventually end up showcased on The Block, but that's not really the same. Note that most of the settings will also use screen scaling 3D Resolution to render at a lower resolution and then scale that to your display resolution.
For testing, I've always set this to percent, so no scaling is taking place. I've run the benchmark sequence at the Epic preset, and compared performance with the other presets as well as with each individual setting at the minimum level. Depending on your GPU, dropping from the Epic preset to High will boost performance by around 40 percent, the Medium preset can improve performance by about percent, and the Low preset runs about 2.
You can see screenshots of the four presets above for reference, but the Low preset basically turns off most extra effects and results in a rather flat looking environment.
Medium adds a lot of additional effects, along with short-range shadows. High extends the range of shadows significantly, and then Epic… well, it looks mostly the same as High, perhaps with more accurate shadows ie, ambient occlusion.

Removing the HUD in Fortnite is actually very simple. In fact, all it requires is visiting the settings menu and then simply turning off a few different sliders. The downside here, though—and the confusing part for a lot of people—is that you cannot remove the HUD unless you are actively in a match.
This means you will need to launch the game and then load into a match before you can actually make any changes to the HUD itself. You will want to toggle off of these items to off. Make sure you leave Net Debug Stats set to off as well, as it is already set to be turned off when you initially set up the game.
There are a couple of things to note, though. With the HUD removed, you can finally start taking the screenshots and cinematic shots you want to capture. You can also head back over to our Fortnite guide hub for more helpful information, like guides to help you complete all the challenges in the latest season.
